Summer Air, Hoopers Island MD June 5, 2010

I love all seasons.  The constant change keeps me on my toes, and I love the different light that comes with each day.  It’s almost officially summer, which means its hot.  HOT.  When you walk out the door that warm, steamy salt air hits you (ohhh, how I love the salt air) and your hair.  Those who are blessed with curly hair know the feeling.  Either your hair forms cute ringlets or for those who are less fortunate – your hair spirals into a puffball of frizz.  Welcome to Summer.

And with the warm, muggy air during Summertime you get … you guessed it.  THUNDERSTORMS!  These little nuggets of joy seemed to always come in the evening after a long day full of air so thick with humidity it seems hard to breath.  You can hear the thunder begin to boom before you can even see the storm coming.  It’s a low rumble in the air, one of those that you can feel more then hear.  The sky clouds up in the distance and turns almost black as they crawl across the Bay at various speeds.  The wind starts to pick up and cool off as the rain pelts across windows and the brackish water.  The thunder rumbles louder and the lightning falls from the sky, striking the water and sometimes an occasional tree.  I’ve always liked thunderstorms, watching the crazy clouds roll in, and the feeling in the air of electricity.

Sometimes at the end of a thunderstorm, when it’s raining ever so slightly and the sky has cleared off, nature gives you a gorgeous rainbow.

Sneak Peak: Jimmy and Morgan, Lewes Delaware June 3, 2010

Here’s a sneak peak into Jimmy and Morgan’s Engagement shoot from the other day.  I was unsure as to if we could even shoot that evening because when I was on my way to Lewes I ran into a terrible thunderstorm.  We waited out the storm as our puppies played together and we got some gorgeous shots!  More to come soon!

Oh No Not Snow!, Hoopers Island MD May 21, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Coty @ 9:00 am

Just kidding, I LOVE snow!

Isn’t it crazy to think that only two months ago we were covered in the most snow we’ve seen in awhile!  We’re rolling in lush green grass, blooming flowers, pollen and now this crazy lady wants to talk about snow.  Let me take you back for a few minutes to this said snow.  I never really posted anything on the snow and I couldn’t let the photos just sit there looking all sad because no one had seen them.  So, I pulled a few just to share …

Clay and I took a into town early in the morning when the snow was just starting.  I said just starting.  It’s all over the place and its. just. starting!  Notice the lights?  Oh, that’s right.  There is no light.  Lights out Cambridge.

There was so much snow on the roof of the Boatyard and we had another storm coming, so Dad sent the boys up there to shovel off most of it.  All that snow makes a ton of weight.  Nobody likes a caved in roof!

I just LOVE when the snow is sticky and clings to all the plant life.  I know it can get dangerous with trees and whatnot but, it’s pretty!

Somebody, nobody’s pointing any fingers … but somebody didn’t realize there was a ditch.

I’ve always parked my car in front of that cedar tree. It’s a big one.  I wasn’t home during one of the snow storms but my car was, and since I wasn’t driving it, it wasn’t parked in my “spot”.  Thank God though.  The cedar spilt with the wind and the weight of the snow and landed just shy of my “spot”.  *car not in place of where was parked during storm… just thought I’d let you know.

When all else fails during the snow, you ride.  Ride around and watch it snow with your friends.  Bundle up and make memories.   I like how my head looks four times bigger then everyone else’s, eh, oh well.

Now put on your bathing suit and get ready for summer!

Mothers Day, Cambridge MD May 20, 2010

I was delighted when Kelsie contacted me about taking photographs as a present for her boyfriends mom for Mother’s Day.  It’s such a sweet and thoughtful idea, why didn’t I think of it before!  We could only shoot on Sundays because the boys own their own landscaping business and work everyday except for Sunday – their sunglass tan is proof.  We planned for one Sunday and had to cancel because the weatherman called for thunderstorms … of course that Sunday turned out to be gorgeous!  So we planned for the next Sunday, and guess what!?  The weatherman called for more thunderstorms!  In hopes of completing our shoot we moved the time up, and it was HOT!  Good thing there was a swift breeze or Aliza would have melted.  A few rain drops were the only thing that fell from the sky that day.  Somebody should tell that weatherman to get his act together.   Thank you guys for putting up with the heat, your good humor made it all worth while!  You might remember Courtney and Aliza from our Christmas shoot.  It’s such a great feeling to have repeat customers, thank you guys for working with me!  I hope to keep working with you all in the future!

She’s just so cute!

I just love this one of Kelsie and Shane!  They work so well together, and are so much in love.

ESDA Spring Recital, Cambridge MD May 19, 2010

Yet again … it’s almost been a month since my last post!  I haven’t been slacking, on the other hand I have been really busy!  Which is great, I can’t complain.  My normally incredibly clean studio is currently covered in Coty Jones Photography bags, turquoise tissue paper, a ton of dance recital portraits, and a sleeping puppy.

My great friend, owner/teacher and a lady of many titles at Eastern Shore Dance Academy, Jessica, proposed the idea of photographing her dance company for their spring recital.  The day was filled with tons of tiny tap shoes, sequins, sparkles, and killer costumes!  I’ve been working hard on this project ever since that day, and so have the dancers!  They’re going to put on a mean dance show soon, and I’m sure your going to be impressed.  This Friday and Saturday the dancers from the Eastern Shore Dance Academy will be performing two separate shows at the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School in the auditorium … “Dancing Through the Decades”.  Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for the little ones and the show starts at 6p.m.  There’s even a silent auction before the show … complete with a Coty Jones Photography package (hint, hint).  Go, support, and be impressed!

I’m Still Here! April 23, 2010

I can’t believe that I haven’t posted in almost a month!  That’s crazy and I feel bad for semi-falling off the face of the earth.  But lot’s of post’s are coming, I promise.  I PROMISE!

But just to hold you over … here’s the new handsome man in my life.  10 Gauge Jones, or most commonly known as Gauge.  A silver chocolate lab mix who just turned fourteen weeks old.

Doesn’t it just make you all warm and fuzzy inside?

Fresh Start, Cambridge MD March 24, 2010

It’s hard to believe with this beautiful weather we have been having lately, that only a month ago we were experiencing complete white outs!  Such a transition, but really … why complain?  It’s spectacular out.  Even though I love the snow (I love all seasons … the change keeps you on your toes), it’s time to move on to those gorgeous flowers that are popping their little green heads up.

A Little Sunshine, Outer Banks NC February 11, 2010

Just a little something to cheer those up who have cabin fever from all this snow!  This is a photo that I took on vacation in the Outer Banks last June, I thought it might put a little sunshine in someones day.  A beautiful bright purple Lacecap Hydrangea, one of my favorite flowers.

Certified Cutest, Hoopers Island MD February 11, 2010

I’m not kidding, he is the cutest.  Not that I’m just saying it but, he really is.  He won a contest, Cutest Baby in the Tri-County Area!  No joke, Mr. Gavin is an award winning “Cutest Baby”.  He’s making all kinds of moves now-a-days, learning to walk and talk.  Everything is a “doggie”, whether it’s a girl, boy, cat or an actual dog … he calls it a “doggie”.  Little man has such a contagious laugh, you can’t help but smile when your around him.  I can’t believe that he is already one year old, it’s flown by so fast. It’s been an amazing adventure watching you grown up Mr. Gavin.
